Auf der Website http://www.rinbad.demon.co.uk fand ich nachfolgendes Bericht. Ich werde es nicht völlig übersetzen aber im Kurze geht es darum dass diese stillgelegte Strecke doch instand gehalten bleibt für den Fall dass die parallele Hauptstrecke durch Terrorismus nicht meht betrieben werden kann.

Mal eine Idee die Politiker diese Chance für die Vennbahn (viadukt Montzen ist ja ziemlich Terrorismus-schwach) auf dem Tisch zu legen ?

4052][FR] Gardanne - Meyreuil - La Barque - Trets - Brignoles - Carnoules: (Ball 75B3-76B2) The disused section of this line east of La Barque is retained on strategic grounds. The aim stated in 2001 - to retain an alternative rail route from Marseille east through to Nice and Ventimiglia in case the Marseille - Toulon main line were to become impassable through damage or terrorist attack to the viaduct on the coast at Bandol (R.1454) - was essentially confirmed in summer 2004. Addressing some 1300 people, most of whom had come from Marseille and Toulon to visit the line on day-excursion trains promoted by the campaigning-group Train Avenir du Centre Var, a French army colonel said that, though closed, the Gardanne - Carnoules line was classified as a strategic line for national defence. The defence and transport ministries were paying rail-infrastructure authority Réseau Ferré de France an average of EUR50k annually towards its upkeep, and it would certainly remain as a through route. Whatever new alignments or sidings might be created as part of any passenger-reopening project, the line would need to remain available for deployment of the armed forces.
